Earlier this afternoon, I appeared as a guest on KRLD-CBS News Radio 1080 in Dallas/Fort Worth. I spoke with anchors Bonnie Petrie and David Rancken about the Government Accountability’s Office report on the possible savings that could result from permanently replacing dollar bills with dollar coins. While the report shows that $5.5 billion could be saved over thirty years, that savings comes after an initially expensive period in the first four years.
I’m a fan of the eventual transition from bills to coins for money with lower denominations, but I understand the public, business, and political perspectives that do not favor such a change.
